Hummer H1 review: a real military vehicle wearing civilian plates

There is no other used car in Bahrain that will cross a genuinely difficult dune field the way an H1 will, because it was never really a car to begin with — it is a lightly civilianised Humvee. That capability comes with a fuel bill, a parking footprint and a running-cost reality that make it a terrible daily driver and a genuinely special weekend one.
Hummer H2 review: a Tahoe in armour plating, and just about as capable

Underneath the imposing bodywork, the H2 is a well-disguised Chevrolet Tahoe: same GMT820 platform family, same 6.0-litre Vortec V8, same basic mechanicals a Bahrain Chevy or GMC workshop already knows. The styling made a statement the driving experience never quite backs up with H1-level capability, but the parts story is genuinely convenient.

The smallest Hummer is also, mechanically, the most sensible one to own in Bahrain: it shares its GMT355 platform with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, which puts real parts availability behind the styling. The base 3.7-litre five-cylinder is genuinely underpowered for the truck's weight; the 2008-2010 Alpha V8 fixes that completely.
