Buy the Q8 e-tron if you can charge at home overnight and mainly use it for daily Manama driving with occasional causeway trips planned around a known charger; the car rewards that use case with quiet, quick, all-weather-secure driving. Do not buy it as your only car if you rely on public charging for regular long trips — Bahrain's network is not there yet, whatever the car itself is capable of.

Audi's electric SUV has had a confusing naming history — launched as the e-tron, renamed Q8 e-tron in 2023 alongside a genuine battery and range upgrade — but the car underneath has quietly gotten better with each update. The dual-motor 55 quattro's 402 hp and 664 Nm make it the quickest-feeling SUV in Audi's Bahrain range away from a stoplight, delivered with the instant, silent shove electric motors are good at and combustion Audis are not.
Living with the range, in the Gulf
Audi's claimed range figures, like every manufacturer's, assume conditions gentler than a Bahraini August. Running the air conditioning hard against 45 degree Celsius heat takes a real bite out of the number on the dash, and a realistic expectation for daily driving here is closer to 400 km than the brochure's best-case figure — still comfortably enough for a normal week of Manama commuting on a single overnight charge at home.
The problem is not the car on the days you need more than that. Bahrain's public DC fast-charging network has grown but remains thin outside a handful of malls and the airport, and unlike the UAE's more built-out corridors, a flat battery away from home is a genuine planning problem rather than a five-minute inconvenience.
Who it actually suits
For a two-car household with home charging and a combustion car for longer trips, the Q8 e-tron is an excellent daily driver: quiet, quick, quattro-secure in the rare heavy rain, and free of the fuel-station stop most owners will not miss. As a sole car for someone who regularly drives to Saudi or does not have reliable home charging, it currently asks more planning than the car itself deserves.
