A well-maintained Seville STS is still a genuinely quick, comfortable and technologically interesting sedan, but the Northstar V8's head-bolt and intake-gasket weaknesses are exactly the kind of failure that punishes neglect, and there is no dealer left anywhere in the Gulf to fall back on. Buy one only with a documented cooling-system history, and budget for an independent specialist rather than a franchised workshop.

When the STS launched, its 300-horsepower Northstar V8 and front-wheel-drive Continuously Variable Road-Sensing Suspension made it one of the fastest, most technologically dense American luxury sedans money could buy — quicker in a straight line than most European rivals of the same era, with a stability-control system, StabiliTrak, that predated equivalent systems from several German brands.
The Northstar trade-off
The engine's reputation is a genuine split. Smooth, powerful and free-revving when healthy, the Northstar is also well known among American V8 specialists for head bolts that can strip their threads out of the soft aluminium block over time, most often after repeated overheating events, leading to persistent coolant loss and intake-manifold gasket failures. None of this is a rumour; it is the single most-discussed weakness of this generation of Cadillac engine anywhere it is sold.
Why that matters more in Bahrain
A stressed cooling system in a 45-degree summer is precisely the scenario that accelerates this failure mode, and Bahrain has no Cadillac dealer and effectively no independent workshop with deep Northstar experience. Any Seville considered here needs a full cooling-system inspection — radiator, water pump, thermostat and hose condition — before purchase, and an owner willing to monitor coolant level religiously afterward.
None of this erases what the car does well: the cabin is genuinely quiet, the ride is composed rather than floaty, and the FWD layout with Road-Sensing Suspension gives it a more planted feel through Bahrain's roundabouts than its size suggests. It is simply a car that rewards vigilance and punishes neglect in equal measure.
