Chery Tiggo 7 Pro review: the compact SUV that made Chinese cars unavoidable in Bahrain

3.4/5

MotorsSouq Editorial Team

The Tiggo 7 Pro is the car that made a lot of Bahraini buyers take Chery seriously, and it earns that on its own merits: a striking cabin, a genuinely usable turbo engine, and a features list that beats the Tucson class at the same money. The seven-year warranty is a real asset, provided you service on schedule at Motorcity and read the wear-item exclusions before treating it as a reason alone to buy. Where it still loses is resale — budget for a Chinese-badge depreciation curve, not a Korean one, and this is an easy car to recommend.

Pros

  • Cabin design and material quality beat several same-price established-brand rivals
  • CVT calibration is smooth and predictable, not the elastic-band feel of cheaper CVTs
  • Strong AC and cooling performance in Bahraini summer
  • Sells in high enough volume locally that resale is better than most Chinese SUVs

Cons

  • Seven-year warranty is a manufacturing-defect warranty, not a free-maintenance plan
  • Single distributor's workshop network covers the whole country
  • Still depreciates faster in the first three years than a Tucson or Sportage
  • 145hp is adequate rather than quick for the car's size

145 hp and 210 Nm doesn't sound dramatic against a turbo Tucson, but the Tiggo 7 Pro's CVT — marketed with nine simulated ratios rather than a true stepped gearbox — is calibrated well enough to avoid the flaring, elastic-band feel that gives CVTs a bad name. It's not a quick SUV, but it's a smooth and predictable one in everyday Bahrain traffic.

The interior is genuinely the headline. Dual-screen dashboard, ambient lighting, and soft-touch materials on the dash and door cards that several established-brand rivals at the same price still don't offer. It's the single biggest reason the Tiggo 7 Pro gets cross-shopped seriously rather than dismissed.

Heat, causeway, and dealer reality

Cabin cooling is strong, coping well with a full car in peak summer, and the CVT's cooler has proven adequate for Manama stop-start traffic without the horror stories that plagued some early Chinese CVT applications a decade ago. On the causeway to Saudi, sustained highway speed is where the CVT shows its character most — smooth, if not the last word in engagement.

The seven-year warranty, again

As with the Arrizo, Motorcity's headline seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty is genuine and worth having, but it is a manufacturing-defect warranty, not a maintenance plan — brake pads, tyres, and consumables are on the owner, and missing a scheduled service at an authorized centre can void a claim. With only one distributor's workshop network covering the whole country, plan service visits ahead of a long trip rather than assuming a same-week slot.

Resale, honestly

The Tiggo 7 Pro holds value better than most Chinese SUVs in Bahrain simply because it sells in higher volume and buyers increasingly recognise it, but it still depreciates faster in the first three years than a Tucson or Sportage. Treat the gap as the price of the equipment and warranty advantage you got on day one, not as a flaw unique to this car.
