Buy an Optra in Bahrain only for the price, because that is genuinely the only thing it still has to offer against a same-age Corolla or Sunny. The 1.6-litre four and four-speed automatic are simple enough that almost any independent workshop can keep one running cheaply, and the car's sheer numbers on the used market mean parts are easier to find than for most other 2000s Korean-built Chevrolets. Do not expect refinement, resale value, or a particularly involving drive — this was always a car built to a price.

What owning one is actually like
The 1.6-litre four's 107 hp is modest even by budget-sedan standards, and the four-speed automatic feels dated next to a modern CVT, but the mechanical simplicity is also the car's biggest practical strength: there is very little to go wrong that an independent Bahraini workshop has not already seen a hundred times. Why it is still everywhere on Bahrain's used market
